Launched in 2009, the Gerson West School was developed using the success and expertise of the Eleanor Gerson High School. Started as a middle school, the program has now extended into a high school program currently serving youth in grades 6 - 8.

Gerson West, fully accredited by the state of Ohio, offers an alternative educational experience for students with severe emotional and behavioral issues. In contrast to the "internalizing" behaviors of the Gerson High School population, Gerson West students tend to act out emotional issues and may present with:

  • ADHD
  • Poor social skills and peer relationships
  • Persistent discipline problems
  • High functioning Autism Spectrum disorders (Asperger's)

Because of the nature of the student population, the Gerson West faculty is augmented by classroom aides trained in behavioral issues, and all staff are formally trained in de-escalation techniques to enable the delivery of a quality education while appropriate behaviors are being shaped.

Students are referred to Gerson West by their home school districts. Tuition is approximately $190/day.  Prospective students will have completed the 5th grade. Students are enrolled throughout the school year.
