What is the Eleanor Gerson School?
The Eleanor Gerson School is an alternative high school for adolescents who for personal, behavioral and/or relationship reasons have not been successful in a traditional high school setting. The Gerson School is chartered by the Ohio Department of Education.

Who can attend the Eleanor Gerson School?
Students who have completed the 8th grade and meet the eligibility requirements of the school may apply. The school is specifically geared toward youth with emotional or behavioral difficulties and who are having trouble coping in traditional high schools. Other eligible applicants include youth who are progressing from a controlled setting, such as a hospital or treatment center.

How is application made to the Eleanor Gerson School?
To apply, you should contact the special education department of your home school district to begin the referral process.  Private referrals can also be made by family or individuals who would be charged the tuition fee. Who provides services to the students?
The Gerson School is staffed with seven certified teachers, who also act as advisors for individual students, and a part time school psychologist. The staff also works with students’ home district representatives, private psychologists and other mental health professionals involved with each student.

What will my child experience at the Eleanor Gerson School?
The Gerson School offers a complete course of high school studies in a therapeutic environment. Careful guidance of each student's personal development is provided and learning takes place in small group settings. Students can return to mainstream high school, or graduate from Gerson and are prepared for college, technical training, or full-time employment.

How do I pay for the Eleanor Gerson School?
School districts may refer non-special education students at a daily rate. Special education students are enrolled by referral from their local school districts.  School district representatives will then call the school to initiate enrollment.
